Probationary employees at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), a section of the U.S. Department of Energy, endured a whirlwind weekend. After sending probationary employees termination letters from the Trump administration on Thursday, NNSA officials spent the weekend trying to rescind the terminations for some of them. Several probationary employees are needed for roles at the NNSA, which manages nuclear weapons and uranium sites across the nation, like the Y-12 national security complex in Tennessee, the Los Alamos national laboratory in New Mexico, the Pantex plant in Texas, plus many other sites.

The NNSA’s annual budget is $25bn, and it employs more than 65,000 federal contract employees. A current NNSA program involves modernizing the nation’s nuclear weapons. Adding to the chaos of the quick termination turnaround is a communications issue. The NNSA has incomplete contact information for some of the probationary employees to be reinstated, further complicating the rehiring process.

Cold War Patriots knows the value of keeping a nuclear weapons or uranium plant – and the people who operate it – running smoothly. We advocate for nuclear weapons and uranium workers to enjoy the compensation and health benefits they earned through the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). If you or a loved one is a nuclear weapons or uranium worker curious about qualifying for EEOICPA benefits, needing assistance filing a claim; or would like to maximize available EEOICPA benefits, call Cold War Patriots today at 855-230-1339.
