Concerned citizens of the Navajo Nation, uranium workers and downwinders who lived and worked near uranium processing sites met with Congressmembers on Sept. 24, 2024 to emphasize the importance of expanding the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA). This cohort represented various communities who were impacted by toxic radiation exposure from local atomic testing and uranium processing sites. RECA provides free health care and compensation to people who were made ill by radiation exposure, which can improve or maintain their peace of mind. Advocacy efforts to expand RECA a gaining bipartisan support and the time to seize the opportunity is running out.
