The Senate Officially Recognizes National Day of Remembrance

Yesterday was a remarkable milestone for the Cold War Patriots and Professional Case Management community. We are honored to share that the United States Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 903, officially designating October 30, 2026, as National Day of Remembrance, a day dedicated to recognizing the extraordinary contributions, service, and sacrifices of America’s nuclear weapons and uranium industry workers.

Although this resolution was officially passed yesterday, Cold War Patriots has worked alongside workers, families, advocates, and lawmakers since 2009 to secure recognition of this date. October 30 was chosen because it marks the anniversary of the passage of the original Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) in 2000, a landmark law that acknowledged the sacrifices made by those who supported our nation’s nuclear weapons program.

Each year, our community gathers through in-person and online ceremonies to honor the workers who helped strengthen our nation’s security, as well as the families who stood beside them. We remember those we have lost, celebrate those who are still with us, and recognize the lasting impact these men and women have had on our country. Many workers faced hazardous conditions in the course of their service, with some developing serious illnesses or ultimately losing their lives as a result of their work.

The Resolution states in part:

“Whereas dedicated workers paid a high price for advancing a nuclear weapons program in the service and for the benefit of the United States, including by developing disabling or fatal illnesses;… encourages the people of the United States to support and participate in appropriate ceremonies, programs, and other activities to commemorate October 30, 2026, as a National Day of Remembrance for past and present workers of the nuclear weapons program of the United States.”

Reflecting on the significance of this achievement, Greg Austin, President of Professional Case Management and Chairman of Cold War Patriots, shared:

“It’s been our privilege and honor at Cold War Patriots to help those who have suffered from their work-related illnesses obtain the benefits they have earned, and, when needed, have Professional Case Management provide the highest standard of home care, dramatically improving the lives of those who have given so much to all of us.”

This resolution is more than a designation. It is a recognition of a remarkable community whose dedication helped shape our nation’s history. We are proud to celebrate this achievement and look forward to honoring America’s nuclear weapons and uranium workers on October 30 and for generations to come.
