This October marks a milestone in American history: the 25th anniversary of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). Enacted in 2000, EEOICPA was a long-overdue recognition of the sacrifices made by the men and women who powered our nation’s nuclear defense during the Cold War. These workers, many of whom were exposed to radiation, beryllium, and other hazardous materials, laid the foundation for our national security, often at great personal cost.

As we commemorate this landmark legislation, we also celebrate the enduring commitment of Cold War Patriots (CWP) and Professional Case Management (PCM). We have stood shoulder to shoulder with these heroes from the very beginning. For over two decades, we’ve been proud to serve nuclear weapons and uranium workers with the highest quality home care and advocacy—longer and more consistently than any other provider in the field.

The White Card Program: A Turning Point for Worker Justice

EEOICPA’s U.S. Department of Labor medical benefits white card program has become a symbol of justice and recognition for thousands of energy workers across the country. It provides compensation and medical benefits to those who developed illnesses due to their work in Department of Energy facilities. But beyond the card itself lies a deeper story; one of perseverance, advocacy, and healing.

Cold War Patriots was founded to ensure that these workers were not forgotten. We’ve hosted countless educational and social events, as well as remembrance ceremonies, to connect workers with the resources they deserve. Our annual National Day of Remembrance, now in its 17th year, is a testament to our unwavering dedication to honoring both the living legends and fallen heroes of the nuclear industry.

Professional Case Management: Pioneers in Home Care for Energy Workers

When it comes to delivering care, Professional Case Management has set the gold standard. We were the first—and remain the longest-serving—home care provider specializing in EEOICPA beneficiaries. Our nurses and caregivers are not just skilled professionals; they are compassionate allies who understand the unique medical and emotional needs of this community.

From chronic beryllium disease to radiation-induced cancers, the conditions our clients face require specialized knowledge and a personal touch. PCM’s clinical teams are trained to navigate the complexities of EEOICPA benefits, ensuring that every patient receives the care they’re entitled to—without delay or confusion.

A Legacy of Leadership and Trust

What sets Cold War Patriots and Professional Case Management apart is not just longevity; it’s our leadership. We’ve been at the forefront of policy discussions, helping shape improvements to the EEOICPA program. We’ve advocated for transparency, fairness, and expanded access to care. And we’ve built a reputation for trust that spans generations.

Our clients know that when they call us, they’re not just reaching a provider; they’re connecting with a partner who understands their journey. Whether it’s helping a former uranium miner access home health services or guiding a family through the claims process, we treat every case with the dignity and urgency it deserves.

As we celebrate 25 years of EEOICPA, we also look to the future. But our mission remains the same: to honor, serve, and uplift the heroes of America’s nuclear legacy.
