The final stop on our Cold War Patriots 2025 “Road Trip Through the Atomic Age” tour took us to the New Mexico Mining Museum in Grants, New Mexico. The museum is a unique and fascinating destination that offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the state’s rich history in mining. The museum features several interactive exhibits, including a simulated underground mine that allows visitors to experience what it was like to work in the mines. Our tour on December 13, 2025, led by the museum’s President, educated our group firsthand on some of the critical features and equipment in the mine. We learned about safety protocols, bell codes used on the lift system, blasting and drilling, and much more. It was very informative and fun for our Cold War Patriots members!
The museum houses a diverse and interesting collection of artifacts and memorabilia that have been carefully preserved and displayed. These items include tools and equipment used by the miners, as well as photographs and other memorabilia that give a glimpse into what life was like for the miners and their families. Grants, New Mexico has played a vital role in our country’s uranium legacy and in the Cold War. The museum is a must-see site for all who are interested in this history.
Below are photos of our Cold War Patriots members enjoying the experience.
