“This is clearly a tangled set of issues that Congress should take another look at,” said Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri, citing the concerns over sick nuclear workers and the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). Congressman Ed Perlmutter adds that all too often, EEOICPA is “weighted against the worker.” The McClatchy DC newspaper explains these contentious issues in an article published last week (click here to read the article). The article cites a number of opinions from members of Congress and the Senate that push the Department of Labor to make sure the program is compensating workers fairly, accurately and transparently.  Cold War Patriots urges these members of Congress to advocate for the compensation program to be used for its original intention – to compensate former workers who have become ill due to their work and sacrifices ensuring national security.
